In January I got to visit the Saatchi Gallery in London to see the exhibition titled Collections as research for my current second year project. The exhibition was an eclectic collection of new and upcoming artists work, the rooms were filled with exciting artworks ranging from jewelry to sculptures, all with very different themes.

Whilst there I focused on artworks that used "insects" or the natural world as their theme, due to the fact I am currently working on a project based around this source of inspiration. Seeing what these artists and designers had created really made me think about pushing the boundaries of interior design. Previous to seeing this exhibition I had planned on creating a wallpaper design, along with some sort of sort furnishing such as cushions or a small upholstery project as my final outcomes, but seeing all these objects has made me think about perhaps branching out into clay work or more solid design to try and bend the rules of what interior design really entails.

I was particularly fascinated by a wall decorative piece, it was 3D and made from what looked like bronze or another dark metallic substance. It depicted an abstracted wasps nest, bursting from the wall, adorned with little wasps. I loved how the sculpture took the idea of a decorative wall design and gave it dimensions, to take up room and make the viewer feel a little intimidated. The hexagon shapes and the dark brown tinted gold metal were an amazing combination, because the geometric perfect shapes juxtaposed against the aged looking metal.
