During my second year at Surface Pattern Design I was given the opportunity to participate in a live brief set by H&M. The project laid out a selection of trends to create a clothing collection from, based on childrens wear, menswear or ladies wear. H&M representatives guided me through my work, giving feedback in person and also via Skype calls and eventually judging the entirety of the course students final work to give professional advice and tips for the future and to award internships to six of their favourite collections.

Having this live brief allowed me to experience working for a large design company and work alongside current trends and forecasts .

It also gave me the opportunity to set up my own exhibition at the ALEX building in Swansea to showcase my final designs to the representatives.

My Final Exhibition Set Up

I created a ladies wear collection for A/W 2017 based on the trend "Culture Mix", I designed a variety of prints from ditsy prints to placements for a chosen target customer aged 18 to 24. My designs were very dark and floral, and included not only digital prints but a screen printed gold design on black velvet and a laser engraved dark navy denim sample, to show the representatives the range of techniques they could use to produce my designs.

This live project gave me such a new insight to the world of mass produced fashion, and really helped me to understand how these high street companies functioned.
